Working with Woven Leather

We weave our panels to your cut sizes, weaving just what you need to wrap, trim, and stitch while ensuring little to no waste on your workroom floor. Every panel is made to order and we will work closely with you to best understand your needs for upholstery.

We offer finished pieces in pillows, ottomans, Saarinen chairs, and rugs.

Where and how our woven leather can be used

Most of our weaving is in 3 mm strips, which gives our panels a similar hand to that of a thick linen. This allows for our leather to be applied to most any piece that other textiles would be used.

Vertical Surfaces

We recommend applying directly to a substrate, much in the same way that wallpaper is. Examples of vertical and flat surfaces are walls, doors, drawer fronts, room dividers, etc.

Curved Surfaces

Our woven leather can be used as any fabric would be. Examples include upholstery of chairs, ottomans, and sofas and handrails.

Understanding Leather

Semi-aniline:

Water-based due which gives leather a uniform color and enhances durability. The natural grain and pores of the leather are less viable than a full-aniline dye.

Drum dyed:

Leather is immersed in a dye solution within a tumbling drum. This technique helps to ensure maximum penetration and coverage of the dye on the full thickness of the hide.

Vegetable / Veg dyed:

The conversion of raw material to leather using tannins taken from plants or trees. The resulting leather has a firmer body than other tanning techniques.

Caring for Your Woven Leather

Maintenance:

Vacuum for dust, with a clean, soft brush.
A mild leather, cream-based conditioner can be applied periodically to add protection.
We recommend “Furniture Clinic” products. Follow application instructions on the label.
Do not use oil-based products.

Spills:

For Water
Small amounts will dry within an hour.

For Oil
Very quickly, blot (do not rub) excess liquid and pour at least 1/4 inch of cornstarch over the stain.
Leave the cornstarch on the area for at least 24 hours.
Do not use talcum powder.
Vacuum and repeat, if necessary.
